That is SO true. I don't remember the stories even of most of my favorite books, yet they continue to be favorites because I distinctly remember how happy they made me feel while reading them. I might have even told you this no?
Since when did writers have humility?
I think the best memories we have is of stories told by grandparents sitting on an easy chair while all the grandchildren gather around. The words didn't matter then, neither did the name of the author.
